The Arrow, a PTA-sponsored bi-weekly communication, welcomes announcements of upcoming events, articles of interest to parents and students in the Ohlone community, reports on class projects and field trips, and samples of creative student writing. The Arrow is published every two weeks and covers events such as the Harvest Festival and the Spring Picnic, or topics of unique interest to the Ohlone community. If your article is long and not time-critical, the Arrow editor reserves the right to hold it until the next issue. For a copy of the Arrow publication schedule for the 2003-2004 academic year, please email editors Maureen Roddy and Joni Okamoto at tothearrow@yahoo.com . A hard copy may also be found in the school office.
Articles must be submitted by Friday at 3:00 PM prior to Thursday publication. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to the submission deadline.
Think brief. Use the fewest words possible. The Arrow staff reserves the right to cut or edit copy as needed.
Use Microsoft Word (or an equivalent program that Word can read). For pictures, a .jpg or .jpeg is preferred. Minimize the amount of formatting in the document (i.e. indents, fancy fonts, etc.) since these must be removed when the text is formatted into the master template. Please check names, dates, times, and prices carefully because these are more difficult for the Arrow staff to validate. Please use a spell-check utility.
Flyers: This year we are reducing the number of full-page flyers. Therefore, as often as possible, please supply the text for any flyers in electronic format as well as hard copy format. The text may be re-formatted inside the Arrow itself.
· Submit all text by attaching a file from your word processing/graphics program to an email addressed to the Arrow editors at tothearrow@yahoo.com and indicate when you’d like it to appear in the Arrow.
· If the piece is a paragraph or less, you may simply type the text into the body of an email and send to tothearrow@yahoo.com.
· If you do not have access to email or a computer (or it’s a last-minute note, etc.), neatly hand-written copy may be placed in the Arrow box in the office. Please observe the deadlines. (Friday at 3:00 PM)
If you have a particular piece of line art or clip art to include, please attach a JPEG file from your drawing program to an email to the editor. If you don’t have an electronic copy, place a clear, reproducible photocopy in the Arrow box in the office. Photos are welcome (digital is preferable but not required). Place the photo in the Arrow box or email the JPEG, TIF, or GIF file to the editor. We may not use all the photos, but extras will be submitted to the yearbook staff so all submissions are appreciated!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Maureen or Joni via email, or leave a note for them in the Arrow box in the office. Thank you, and we look forward to working with you.
