Your Teacher Takes You to Colonial Virginia

Virginia in the summer is hot and humid, tropical and lush. Here three cultures met, sometimes in peace, often in conflict, to create the historical circumstances that resulted in the United States of America.

Each summer hundreds of teachers from all over the country attend a week-long institute to learn about colonial life.

We participate in simulations, lectures, and lessons so that we can bring living history back to our students.

We look particularly at the colonial heritage of the English settlers since many of their homes and buildings have been restored to their original state. This is George Washington's plantation at Mount Vernon. Click on the buttons below to join us on our tour.

Sources: The information on these web pages comes from the historical interpreters and the publications of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. They not only hosted us for a week during the summer, they gave us mountains of printed information which was used to create the text of this web page. Any erroneous information is my own.

Funding: In addition to the funding for the trip provided by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, this web site was funded in part by the Palo Alto Unified School District Office of Curriculum and the Palo Alto Education Foundation.
